A Business Coach Provides Value

Recently I had the opportunity to have lunch with Master Executive Business Coach, Susan Klein (http://www.successtechnologiesinc.com/).  We had previously met at a Boca Raton Chamber of Commerce Breakfast Event and thought we should get together with one another and “network”.

Over the course of the meeting I had an opportunity to learn what a Master Executive Business Coach does and how they can be beneficial to any type of business — including Real Estate.  Some of the categories that a Master Business Coach can focus on are:

  1. Accountability
  2. Alliance Building
  3. Leadership Development
  4. Coaching Skills for Managers
  5. Stress Management

The list goes on and on…

My brother started using a Business Coach around 10 years ago and has used his coach continually during that time.  His investment into his business (Financial Planning) has propelled him to the top of his field (the “Top of the Table”).  In fact, he just finalized his 3rd book.  He attributes much of his success to his coach, Helen Davis.

The “take away” from the meeting I had with Susan Klein relates to scheduling.  As a Real Estate Professional I am often overwhelmed by the various factors requiring my time such as:

  1. Marketing
  2. Showing Properties
  3. Planning
  4. Thinking
  5. Operational Tasks
  6. Family Time (this item should be first on the list)

Susan suggested to me that I block time in my calendar by Categorizing whenever possible.  For instance, instead of creating a daily event to write an article for my blog, which can seem overwhelming, why not block off 2 hours per week and write all the articles at one time.  Once that task is complete, I can move on to my next agenda item which may also be marketing related or may be operational or family oriented.

Since implementing Susan’s suggestion, I have found that I am getting much more done.  Once a category is on the calendar, it must be completed.  I have found, however, that it is necessary to schedule “flex” time  for situations where I am unable to complete a task in its entirety and complete the task later.

I am looking forward to my continued communication(s) with Susan Klein.  Have any of you worked with a Business Coach in the past?  If so, what’s been your experience?
